Football Manager 3

Commodore 64

Football Manager 3 is the third entry in the original football management series created by Kevin Toms. Developed by Brian Rogers of Bedrock Software due to artistic differences between Toms and publisher Prism Leisure, the game features a redesigned interface centred on a graphical manager's office. The league system includes all 92 teams with the 1992-93 season featuring the newly formed Premier League on the C64 version. Player management includes three endurance and five skill values, player faces, contract negotiations, and named players. Matches are shown side-on with the whole pitch visible, accompanied by text commentary.

Released at the end of 1992 after significant delays, this version was poorly received. German magazine Magic Disk 64 gave devastating scores: Overall 2/10. Critics savaged the miniature, blocky match graphics where players "twitch disorientedly from left to right." The interface requires pressing space to exit every screen, creating frustrating navigation through hundreds of menus. Player portraits are described as "almost all identical." Unlike previous games, there is no half-time tactic adjustment, substitution option, or team talk. Versions planned for Amiga and Atari ST were advertised but never released. A disappointing conclusion to the pioneering series.
