Apache Strike is a first-person 3D helicopter shooter set in 1997, where you pilot an AH-64 Apache gunship through a futuristic cityscape to stop an alien invasion and destroy the enemy's Strategic Defense Computer (SDC). Navigate through towering skyscrapers and urban corridors while battling enemy helicopters, tanks, and aircraft. Your Apache is equipped with guns and limited ammunition, requiring tactical restraint and precise targeting. An onscreen map displays your position, bearing, and distance to the SDC. LINDA, the Lifelike In-board Narrative Damage Assessment computer, provides digitized speech mission updates and banter. Evade incoming fire, manage ammunition carefully, and reach the final objective to save humanity from apocalypse.

Developed by Paul Nettle and Kenneth Moore and published by Activision in 1989, Apache Strike pushed the C64's capabilities with impressive 3D wireframe graphics rendering hidden-line removed cityscape tunnels. The game features rudimentary but colorful vector-style visuals with buildings zooming past as you fly through corridors. Function key controls enable hover, half-speed, and full-speed flight modes for precise navigation. A functional radar map and compass help locate enemies and objective targets. Digitized speech samples provide mission briefings and tactical information. While criticized for sluggish 3D performance and limited enemy variety, Apache Strike remains a technical achievement showcasing experimental 3D flight simulation on budget hardware. A pioneering effort that influenced later first-person action games.
