Commodore 64

Road Blasters is a vehicular combat racing game originally released by Atari Games in arcades in 1986 . Set in a dystopian future where most of the population lives underground, you compete in the Road Blaster Challenge—a deadly race where cars are armed with photon cannons . The goal is to complete 50 rallies without running out of fuel . Green and red globes, checkpoints, and rally points provide fuel refills . A support jet flies overhead, allowing you to dock and obtain weapon upgrades including rapid-fire minigun, turbo boost, shield generator, and rocket launcher . Progress can be saved, and completing the final rally awards a one million point bonus .

A score multiplier rises with each hit and drops when you miss, with a fuel bonus awarded based on score at stage end . Critical reception was poor: Zzap!64 magazine awarded 59%, Computer + Video Games gave 5/10, The Games Machine scored 47%, Commodore User rated 4/10, and ACE magazine gave 654 . Microhobby's Spanish review was scathing, awarding Originality 50%, Graphics 40%, Movement 20%, Sound 40%, and Addiction 20% . Critics slammed the lack of speed sensation, poor controls, and lack of music—the soundtrack is barely audible and only plays on the high score screen . A difficult and disappointing conversion compared to other versions.
