Street Sports Football

Street Sports Football is an arcade-style American football game played on urban asphalt rather than a pristine stadium. Part of Epyx's "Street Sports" series, it pits two teams of three neighborhood kids against each other, each character possessing unique skills and attributes. You control a quarterback and two receivers, advancing the ball across the street to score. The attacking team has four downs to move ten yards by either running or passing. The game features a side-view perspective when selecting plays, then switches to an on-field view during action. You can design your own plays, adjust scoring rules, and configure the number of downs. The casual street setting, complete with chain-link fences and sidewalk chalk marks, distinguishes it from traditional simulation football games.

Released in 1988, this was the final entry in Epyx's Street Sports series following Basketball and Baseball. Published in North America by Epyx and in Europe by US Gold. Programming was handled by K-Byte and Stephen M. Thomas. The game features colorful, cartoon-style sprites and a catchy SID soundtrack typical of the series' presentation quality. Contemporary reception was mixed, with many players considering it inferior to Street Sports Basketball due to anonymous player sprites, lack of smooth animations, and shallow gameplay compared to earlier entries. The built-in play editor was highlighted as a strong feature, allowing custom strategies. Players can compete in single-player mode against AI or head-to-head with a second player simultaneously.
