Time Fighter

Commodore 64

Time Fighter is an action-platformer where you play as a mercenary traveling through seven historical eras to defeat hostile forces. The time zones include Prehistory, the Middle Ages, the Wild West, Prohibition-era America, World War II, modern New York slums, and a futuristic space base. Each level scrolls sideways with your goal to reach the exit on the far right. The protagonist is a monochromatic silhouette with realistic animation, capable of running, jumping, ducking, and using era-appropriate weapons including stones, arrows, pistols, grenades, and lasers.

Commodore 64

Released in 1988 by CRL Group, developed by Software Invasion. The game is notable for its rotoscoped sprite animation, based on 19th-century photographs by Eadweard Muybridge. Contemporary reviews were overwhelmingly negative. Critics praised only the realistic human animation, but condemned the juddering scrolling, painfully slow movement, dull monochromatic sprites, and boring backgrounds. The game has no music and only minimal sound effects. The Commodore 64 is the only platform that received this game—versions for Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum were announced but never published. A bug exists where enemy bullets can freeze mid-air, becoming impossible to jump over.
