RISK

Commodore 64

R.I.S.K. (Rapid Intercept, Seek and Kill) is a sci-fi horizontally scrolling shooter set on the planet Christon 3, an important research centre invaded by aliens . You pilot the Surface Skimmer, a hovercraft launched from the last remaining human base . The game begins in this base, where you walk your pilot on foot to adjust settings, buy equipment, and view the territory map . The map is a grid where black squares indicate enemy-controlled sectors . When you attack a sector, the action begins: fly your Skimmer across mountainous terrain, destroying enemy craft, ground vehicles, and jetpack-wearing aliens . Your shield depletes from enemy fire, collisions, or high-speed ground impacts . A radar shows distant enemies and stranded human scientists you can rescue by landing nearby . Supply pods are occasionally dropped for collection. Clear all enemies, then enter an underground tunnel with platforms to retrieve scientific projects and supplies .

Commodore 64

Released in 1987 by British publisher The Edge and developed by brothers Chris and Tony West . Due to a legal conflict with Parker Brothers' board game Risk, the game was later re-released as K.R.I.S. by Micro Selection, another Softek International division . The Skimmer initially handles poorly, affected by gravity, but upgrades become available: speed thrusters, retro rockets for faster turning, increased firepower, protective shields, and anti-gravity systems . Zzap!64 magazine awarded the game 90%, praising its creative design and smooth scrolling . The game was also re-released in 1988 on The Edge's All-Stars compilation .
