The Boggit

Commodore 64

The Boggit: Bored Too is a text adventure with static illustrations, developed by Delta 4 and published by CRL Group in 1986 . The game is a parody of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s The Hobbit and of Melbourne House‘s 1982 video game adaptation . It serves as the prequel to Delta 4's earlier parody, Bored of the Rings (1985) . The plot follows reluctant adventurer Bimbo Faggins and the devious wizard Grandalf (parodies of Bilbo and Gandalf) as they journey across “Muddle Earth,” interact with characters like Bernard and Matthew (parodic trolls), and solve puzzles . The ultimate goal is to obtain treasure, culminating in an appearance on a TV game show called “Come on down!” . The game is divided into three parts and uses the standard Quill/Illustrator engine, giving the illusion of complex character interaction through TALK and SAY commands .

Commodore 64

Released in 1986 by CRL Group, the Commodore 64 version features static location graphics alongside descriptive text, using a Quill-derived parser that accepts verb-noun commands or simple full sentences . The game retains the three-part structure, with passwords required to progress between sections . The C64 port was well-received for its humour and logical puzzles; Your Computer magazine noted that “the programmers do not miss a trick in taking a large swipe at adventuring conventions—even TV games shows are included” . The game is recognised as a significant example of the satirical adventure genre, helping establish comedy adventures as a serious contender in the marketplace .
