Humpty Dumpty

Commodore 64

Engineer Humpty is a puzzle-action game where Humpty Dumpty has become a factory engineer. His job is to guide falling spanners into the "works"—a toolbox below him. Each level begins by showing the entire factory layout with conveyor belts moving in different directions and hazardous machinery. After a few seconds, the view switches to a small window tracking the spanner's descent. Once released, the spanner falls, and the player wiggles the joystick left or right to alter its direction. Dropping a spanner onto the wrong conveyor belt causes it to be crushed or melted. Contact with machinery or getting stuck on a belt edge costs a life. When the spanner reaches the works, the screen flashes and you proceed. There are 16 factories.

Commodore 64

Released in 1984 by Artic Computing, developed by Nigel P. Johnstone. This is one of the two original versions alongside the ZX Spectrum. The C64 version features the same puzzle-action mechanics: guiding spanners onto correct belts while avoiding machinery and belt edges. Contemporary press noted the game's unique blend of action and puzzle elements, with increasing difficulty across the 16 levels. Visuals are simple yet effective, with scrolling conveyor belts. Players must plan each drop carefully. A sequel, Humpty Dumpty In The Garden, was also developed for the C64. A creative and challenging puzzle-action hybrid.
