UXB is an action-strategy game where you play as Captain Dar-es UXB, a bomb disposal expert. The jealous Genterns have planted bombs throughout the Caverns of Time because the Lord of the Touchstone refused to grant them immortality . Your mission is to travel through nine Time Caverns, defusing enough bombs in each to pass through an Hour Gate to the next cavern . However, you must evade the Qerims, ghosts of marauders caught stealing Minutes Apples who now guard the caverns hoping to earn their freedom by stopping you . Avoid Time Spines as well, which cause instant dematerialization upon contact . Successfully complete all nine caverns to receive your worthy reward. The title "UXB" stands for "Unexploded Bomb," a term from military ordnance disposal.
Commodore 16
Released in 1984 by Commodore Business Machines and developed by Brandon James . The game takes advantage of the C16's TED chip, which offered a palette of 121 colors, though lacking hardware sprites meant animation had to be done with custom character sets . Unlike many early C16 games suffering from limited 16K RAM, UXB presents a complete arcade-style experience. The Commodore 16 sold over one million units worldwide, achieving its greatest success in Europe. UXB has since gained a cult following, with modern reimplementations created for GameBoy Color and Nintendo 3DS by fans preserving the original gameplay .
