Zero 5 is a sci-fi shooter set in the year 2050. You assume the role of a Space Hound recruited by DEFCON to command the BamBam space fighter and the Hit-Pak space cruiser, defending Earth from the invading Morphon alien race. The game features 15 missions alternating between three gameplay styles. The first is a 360-degree shoot 'em up mode with the BamBam fighter, offering six degrees of freedom in zero gravity where you collect energy pods to increase firepower or shields. The second is a first-person on-rails shooter controlling the Hit-Pak cruiser and its turrets across 360-degree environments. The third mode involves flying the BamBam through narrow, confined spaces inside an alien ship at high speed. Three difficulty levels are available.
Atari Jaguar
Released on September 29, 1997, by Telegames, developed by Caspian Software. A remake of the 1994 Atari STe title and one of the last licensed releases for Jaguar after Atari discontinued the system in 1996. Development began in January 1995. Programmed by Matthew Gosling, Dave Pratt, and Sean Baggaley, music by Dave Newman and James Veal using a proprietary "Zik Tracker" sound driver. Runs at 30 frames per second, displaying around 20,000 polygons on-screen with minimal texture mapping. Originally planned to include a fourth gameplay style, two-player mode, and ProController support, these were scrapped due to time and cartridge constraints. Caspian Software was disbanded due to financial difficulties before release. Critics praised the graphics, techno soundtrack, and intense gameplay but criticized the high difficulty. GameFan commended the soundtrack as better than most Nintendo 64 releases. One of the Jaguar's best late-era shooters, though very rare.
