Missile Command 3D is a shoot 'em up and an update to Dave Theurer's classic 1980 arcade game Missile Command, part of Atari's "2000 series." The player defends six cities from incoming missiles by firing anti-ballistic missiles from three bases. The game offers three distinct modes: "Original" (arcade recreation), "3D" (similar gameplay with three-dimensional visuals), and "Virtual" (first-person variant with power-ups and bosses). In Virtual mode, players primarily use lasers to defend cities, with missiles as secondary. Power-ups include laser upgrades, smart bombs, repairs, and cascades. Each base has 10 missiles. Enemy hazards include bombers, satellites, smart missiles, asteroids, and fire-breathing dragons.

Released on December 12, 1995 by Atari Corporation, developed by Virtuality Entertainment. Designed by James Tripp and team, music by Dale Robins. Originally showcased at E3 1995 as Missile Command 2000, intended for release with the Jaguar VR peripheral. Virtuality agreed to create a Jaguar VR headset for Atari, which included development of this game. The game was completed, but the VR headset was cancelled due to health concerns. Missile Command 3D remains the only officially released title compatible with the unreleased Jaguar VR. A PC port was announced but cancelled. Received mixed reviews: journalists were divided on "Original" mode but gave favorable comments to "3D" and "Virtual" modes. In 2022, re-released as part of the Atari 50 compilation. Supports ProController and saves high scores via internal EEPROM.
