Baldies is a real-time strategy game with god game elements, played from a top-down perspective. You control a community of Baldies—short, plump, bald characters—who must defeat their enemies, the Hairies (bearded and hairy), across over 100 levels. You do not have direct control over your units. Instead, Baldies wander until you pick them up with a hand-shaped cursor and assign tasks. There are four job classes: Red Baldies are workers who generate energy to terraform the landscape; Blue Baldies are builders, constructing houses, barracks, and laboratories; Grey Baldies are soldiers who fight the Hairies; and White Baldies are scientists who invent weapons by experimenting with animals. The ultimate goal is to wipe out all Hairies by breeding more Baldies and using inventions like land mines and skunks.
Atari Jaguar
Released in December 1995 by Atari Corporation, developed by Creative Edge Software. Conceived by David Wightman, designed to have the depth of Populous and accessibility of Lemmings. Originated as an Amiga project for Mindscape, was canceled and later converted to Jaguar CD. The smallest game released for the system in memory size (75 MB). Supports ProController and came with a controller overlay. Progress saves via Memory Track or passwords. Includes claymation cutscenes between levels. Received generally favorable reviews: Electronic Gaming Monthly scored 8.5/10, calling it "a step in the right direction" for Jaguar, though they criticized mediocre graphics and difficult controls. GamePro praised simple controls and excellent graphics but found music repetitive. Versions for 3DO and Amiga CD32 were announced but never released. A spiritual successor, Skull Caps, was released for Windows in 1999.
