Conan: Hall of Volta is an action-platform game based on the character Conan the Barbarian created by Robert E. Howard. You control Conan as he attacks the evil Volta in his castle fortress, armed with ten boomerang swords that return when thrown. The game includes seven diverse levels requiring you to navigate lava pits, powerful geysers that hurl you into the air, spike pits, and floating platforms. You must collect magic gems and keys to progress. Enemies include bats, scorpions, giant ants, fire-breathing dragons, floating eyeballs, and a huge electrical generator. An "Avian Ally" bird appears randomly—touching it grants an extra life. Conan somersaults instead of simply jumping. Upon final death, a unique caption appears based on which level you died in.
Atari 8-bit
Released in 1984 by Datasoft, this version was originally designed for the Apple II and ported to Atari 8-bit computers alongside the Commodore 64 . The Atari port is considered by some players to be superior to the C64 version, which was noted as "apparently quite poor" in comparison . Control feels smooth with a "meaty" jumping action, though horizontal reach requires a running start . Graphics feature eye-searing colours typical of Apple II ports, with simple but well-animated sprites and a background soundtrack of bleeps and bloops . The game has no save feature—all seven levels must be completed in one session.
