Arkanoid: Revenge of Doh is a direct sequel to the original Arkanoid. The dimension-controlling force DOH has returned to life, occupying the huge starship Xorg and entering our universe from a different dimension. The Mixtec, an Arkanoid-type spaceship, launches the craft Vaus II to attack Xorg. You control the Vaus paddle through 60 levels, with 34 mandatory rounds selected via a Warp Gate system. Completing a level or catching the Break pill summons two gates at the bottom; choosing left or right determines which version of the next level is provided. New power-ups include the Jump pill (vertical movement), Paddles (wider Vaus), and Laser (cannons). New brick types appear: notched silver bricks regenerate after destruction if not cleared quickly, and some bricks move left and right. The final boss is DOH in two forms: a statue-like incarnation, then a creature with waving tentacles that break off and regenerate when struck.

Arcade

Released in June 1987 worldwide by Taito Corporation, designed by Yasumasa Sasabe and Kei Shimizu . The arcade hardware runs on two Z80 CPUs at 6-8 MHz, a YM2203 sound chip, and a vertical raster display at 224 x 256 pixels with 512 colors . Music was composed by Hisayoshi Ogura, founder of Taito's in-house band Zuntata . The game uses an optical rotary spinner for control plus one button (fire) and supports two players taking alternating turns . The US version features a completely different layout for Level 1, with a line of notched bricks and moving colored bricks above them . A giant brain appears as a mini-boss on round 17, which helps players practice for the final DOH confrontation.
