Master Boy

Arcade

Master Boy is a trivia and quiz game developed by the Spanish company Gaelco. In this title, one or two players are presented with a series of questions and must quickly decide whether the given statement is true or false. The game allows players to choose from a variety of topics before starting, such as General Culture, Science, Geography, History, Movies, Music, and Sports, providing a varied challenge that tests general knowledge. While the core of the gameplay revolves around simple true/false answers, its appeal lies in the breadth of its question bank and the competitive edge of a fast-paced quiz format.

Arcade

Originally released in 1987, Master Boy holds significant historical importance as it is believed to be the very first arcade game ever produced by Gaelco. This original version ran on a simple Z80-based PCB. The game is notable for its complex history; it was long considered a lost title and was often confused with a later, graphically enhanced 1991 revision that Gaelco released under the same name. The true 1987 version, which featured text-only presentation, was only rediscovered and preserved by MAME developers in 2018 with the help of Spanish arcade preservation groups. This makes Master Boy a fascinating piece of Spanish arcade history, representing the humble beginnings of a company that would go on to create more notable titles.
