Interchange

Amstrad CPC

Interchange (full title: Insector Hecti in the Interchange) is an action-puzzle game published by Hi-Tec Software in 1991. You play as Insector Hecti, a computerised detective sent to the Interchange, a network invaded by Victor Virus and his bugs. The game features 50 circuits viewed from a top-down perspective. Your task is to walk along the grid and rotate misaligned junction blocks back to their correct orientation, restoring the circuit path. Roaming the circuits are enemy bugs that kill on contact. You can shoot them with limited bouncy projectiles or crush them by rotating a block as they cross it. Power-ups include extra ammo, smart bombs, shields, speed boosts, and extra time. A password is given every five levels.

Released in 1991, developed by PAL Developments with programming and music by David Spicer and graphics by Jason Brashill . Unlike the Commodore 64 version, the CPC version features no level-starting animations and keeps on-screen text messages to a bare minimum for a more immediate experience . The game supports joystick or keyboard controls and was released on cassette and 3‑inch floppy disk. CPC-Power gave the game a score of 10 out of 20 from one voter, while CPC Game Reviews rated it 9 out of 10 . The cassette loading time is approximately 4 minutes and 40 seconds .
