Gemini Wing

Amstrad CPC

Gemini Wing is a vertically scrolling shooter developed by Tecmo and originally released in arcades in 1987 . Set in a future where humans and aliens once lived in harmony until a tabloid journalist stirs hatred, you pilot the Gemini Wing fighter to repel the alien invasion . The game is distinguished by its unusual power‑up system: instead of permanent upgrades, you collect floating “Gunballs” that queue behind your ship; each press of the fire button consumes one for a special weapon effect . Available weapons include homing missiles, a wide beam, and a spinning spark attack. The game supports two‑player simultaneous co‑op and features large end‑level bosses with unique attack patterns .

Amstrad CPC

Published in 1989 by Virgin Mastertronic and developed by Imagitec Design . The CPC version runs in Mode 0 graphics (160×200, 16 colours), which produces bright, colourful visuals . However, the conversion is heavily criticised: the sheer amount of on‑screen colour makes enemy sprites hard to distinguish, and the main sprites are described as “badly drawn” . Scrolling is unnervingly jerky and slows down during crowded sections, severely impacting playability . Sound includes the original arcade title tune on the menu but offers no in‑game music—only a few basic sound effects . Two‑player co‑op is absent; this version supports only one player . A technically flawed but visually ambitious conversion, considered inferior to the Commodore 64 port .
