Psi-5 Trading Company is a space simulation/strategy game developed by Accolade, released in 1986 . You assume command of a starship captain tasked with delivering urgently needed cargo through a dangerous sector teeming with pirates . Before launch, you must select a crew of five from thirty applicants, each with unique skills, personalities, and quirks—some are telepathic, some rebellious, some mumble . During the mission, you communicate with crew members (weapons, scanner, navigation, engineering, repairs) via an intercom system, issuing orders to lock onto enemies, fire weapons, reroute power, and repair damage . Three missions of increasing difficulty are available. Success depends on split-second decisions and crew management .
Amstrad CPC
Released in 1985/1986 by Accolade, developed by Distinctive Software . The Amstrad CPC version was ported by Chris Pink, who also handled the ZX Spectrum conversion . It retains the full crew selection system, three difficulty missions, and the real-time intercom command interface . A notable feature is the ability to start missions with a pre-selected crew, presumably to reduce loading times from cassette . The Amstrad PCW release (1986) is said to offer more fluid gameplay than the sometimes stuttering ZX Spectrum version, though it suffers from monochrome graphics and only basic beep sound effects . The CPC version was also published by U.S. Gold in Europe alongside the Commodore 64 original .
