Thrust II is a physics-based multidirectional shooter and the sequel to the 1986 classic Thrust. You pilot a spacecraft that can rotate 360 degrees and apply thrust, navigating through maze-like tunnels on planet P2112. The objective is to search for 16 protective orbs of varying masses, tow them to the surface, and deposit them to build an atmospheric processor. Only one orb can be carried at a time, and a timer begins once an orb is picked up. The ship's handling changes depending on the orb's weight. Imperial androids patrol the tunnels; you defeat them using chemical agents hidden in boxes.
Amstrad CPC
Released by Firebird in 1987 as a budget title, converted by Andrew Rodgers. The port features the complete gameplay mechanics: varying orb masses that alter ship handling, the timer system, and chemical weapon pickups. Contemporary reviews were mixed. Amstrad Action rated it 64%, praising the enjoyable ship control mechanics, particularly the challenge of mastering flight while an orb's weight drags the ship down. However, critics noted drab, single-colored characters and lifeless scenery, with sound described as "dull" and "not worth mentioning." The sequel adds unnecessary complexity with the chemical agent system, and the core task becomes monotonous over time. A fair but unspectacular sequel.
