Kane

Amstrad CPC

Kane is a multi-section action game published by Mastertronic in 1985 at a budget price . You play as Marshall McGraw, the only white man trusted by the Wagari Indians . The NAST Railway Company wants to build a railroad through the tribe's sacred valley, risking a new war . Your mission is to reach the US President in Washington with peace tokens to stop the construction . The game consists of four distinct stages played consecutively . The first stage is a bow-and-arrow duck hunt to earn peace tokens, which act as extra lives . The second is a horseback ride to the town of Kane, avoiding obstacles with timed jumps . The third is a shootout against hired outlaws in a forward-facing gallery . The fourth is another horseback chase to catch a departing train .

Amstrad CPC

Released in 1986 for the Amstrad CPC, ported by Simon Freeman from the Commodore 64 original . This version features the CPC's 16-colour Mode 0 graphics with clever split-mode techniques for score displays . Animation of Marshall McGraw is extremely smooth, reminiscent of Impossible Mission, and horse riding sequences scroll fluidly for a budget title . The musical soundtrack features Rossini's William Tell Overture, playing on the title screen and during level two . Amstrad Action praised the "lovely animation, witty gameplay and great music", calling it "great fun and great value for money" . A practice mode allows you to attempt any level individually with one life .
