Movie

Amstrad CPC

Movie is an isometric arcade adventure set in 1930s New York City. You play Jack Marlow, a hard-boiled private investigator whose latest client is gunned down in his office before revealing the details of his case. Your mission is to infiltrate the headquarters of mob boss Bugs Malloy and retrieve an incriminating audiotape from his safe. To succeed, you need the help of a girl named Tanya. However, she has an identical twin sister, Vanya, who is allied with Malloy and will deliberately lead you into trouble. The game world is presented from an isometric perspective, similar to Ultimate's Knight Lore. A panel of icons allows Marlow to drop or take items, fire his gun, punch, throw objects, or talk to other characters using text bubbles. As you navigate the building, you can search furniture and move objects.

Amstrad CPC

Published by Imagine Software in 1986, programmed by Dusko Dimitrijevic, with artwork by F. David Thorpe and cover illustration by Bob Wakelin. HebdoGiciel praised the superb animation, intuitive 3D perspective, and sound design capturing the era's atmosphere. Many consider Rockstar's L.A. Noire to be heavily influenced by Movie. Amstrad Semanal noted five "magic phrases" ("Help", "What is the password") aid communication; a full translation of 58 possible dialogue lines is included in the manual. The game was re-released in Spain by Erbe Software. The tape and disk versions include Speedlock copy protection. The game is notable for its dialogue system using text bubbles where you must type phrases on your keyboard to interrogate guards and allies.
