3D Quasars is a space shooter set after the Proxima War. The Federation, forced back to its home planets, must defend the Quasar defence system. The enemy has blasted a tunnel through the system with nuclear photons. As captain of a Tarantula C1 patrol ship, you must attack enemy craft and defend the tunnel until the entrance is sealed. The game uses a pseudo-3D perspective that scrolls towards you, giving the illusion of flying down a trench. Your ship sits at the bottom of the screen, able to move left and right while firing along the trench. Aliens appear in the distance and hurtle toward you, attempting to ram your ship. They do not fire back, but later waves become progressively faster. An extra life is awarded at 5,000 points.
Amstrad CPC
Released in 1985 by Solar Software for the Amstrad CPC, written by John P. Shay. The CPC port features vibrant coloured graphics, with the trench rendered in red and purple stripes that scroll at speed. A starfield in the background scrolls in the opposite direction, enhancing the sense of velocity. Critics praised the fast and tough action but noted the lack of variety in enemy waves and repetitive gameplay. The game is impossible to complete; waves continue indefinitely, increasing in speed until the aliens vanish and debris flies toward you. Amstrad Action and CPC Rulez both reviewed the title, noting acceptable collision detection but limited lasting appeal.
