Finders Keepers is a platform adventure written by David Jones and the first game in the Magic Knight series, published by Mastertronic in 1985. You play as Magic Knight, sent by the King of Ibsisima into the Castle of Spriteland to find a special birthday present for Princess Germintrude. Success grants you a seat at the famous "Polygon Table". The castle features flick-screen rooms and two large scrolling mazes where you collect objects appearing as blinking triangles. Objects can be examined, picked up, dropped, traded with merchants, or combined to create more valuable items (e.g., a bar of lead with the philosopher's stone creates gold). Dangerous creatures drain your strength on contact. Two endings exist: find the perfect gift or escape with treasure.
Amstrad CPC
Released in 1985 for the Amstrad CPC, ported by Ed Hickman. This version features Mode 0 graphics with 16 colours on screen, showcasing the CPC's capabilities when coded properly . The mazes are named "Cold Upper Maze" and "Slimey Lower Maze", identical to the ZX Spectrum original . The music received criticism for being poor, though the gameplay is described as fast and enjoyable . A status panel on the right displays lives, energy, room exploration percentage, cash earned, and inventory value . The game requires precise jumping as you cannot pass through blocks mid-jump. Amtix magazine reviewed it in issue #1 (November 1985), praising it as a "first rate piece of budget software" . The Magic Knight series continued with Spellbound, Knight Tyme, and Stormbringer.
