Dragontorc is an action-adventure game and sequel to Avalon. You control Maroc the Mage, who previously defeated the Lord of Chaos. Now a new threat rises: Morag the Shape-Shifter, the Witch Queen of the North, seeks to inherit the power of the legendary Dragontorc of Avalon . To reactivate it, Morag needs the five crowns of Britain's kingdoms. She has already seized the crown of Dumnonia. Your mission: destroy the remaining crowns, infiltrate Morag's citadel, kill her, and free your mentor Merlyn from her enchantment . Gameplay is similar to Avalon—you control Maroc's astral projection, which can only act or move through spells. A new feature allows recruiting other characters . Enemies attack the projection and drain its energy. Spells include MOVE, SERVANT, BANE, and MISSILE .
Amstrad CPC
Released in 1985 by Hewson Consultants, developed by Steve Turner's Graftgold, converted by Keith Prosser . Amtix magazine gave 91%, praising "brilliant graphics" and "addictive qualities" . Amstrad Action awarded 86% . The conversion makes full use of the CPC's graphics capabilities, eliminating Spectrum colour clash . Over 200 locations are drawn in 3D perspective . The game uses "Sensory Animation"—how you treat creatures affects their behaviour; befriending elves is necessary for the final assault . Sound features a nice title tune but otherwise spot effects . Control takes practice but becomes natural. For CPC owners, Dragontorc is one of the best arcade-adventures of 1985.
