Sir Lancelot is a platform game casting you as the legendary Knight of the Round Table. Across 24 castle rooms filled with guardians including animals and soldiers, Lancelot must collect every glowing object in each chamber before the time limit expires. Control is deliberately simple—only left, right, and jump—forcing reliance on timing and route planning rather than combat. Lancelot has four lives, lost either by touching any patrolling guardian or running out of time. The glowing objects are easily identifiable, and each room must be cleared completely before the exit becomes available. The game follows the Manic Miner template, emphasising precise movement and pattern memorisation.
Amstrad CPC
Released in 1984 by Melbourne House via its Studio B label. The CPC version includes a significant enhancement: Merlin's Teleport Chamber, allowing selection of any of the 24 chambers in any order, plus a high-score table (absent from the Spectrum original). Graphics benefit from the CPC's superior colour palette and Mode 0 resolution, offering more vibrant visuals than the colour-clash plagued original. The Spectrum version ran on 16K, forcing compromises—Lancelot moved two pixels at a time—but the CPC conversion allows smoother animation. Reception was mixed but generally positive, praising straightforward, addictive gameplay capturing the Manic Miner feel, though the repetitive object-collecting drew some criticism. A solid if unspectacular platformer rewarding patience and precision.
