Jet-Boot Jack is a platform game originally written by Jon Williams for Atari 8-bit computers and published by English Software in 1983. You control Jack, a space-age jogger equipped with rocket-powered boots, on a mission to journey through a Record Pressing Plant and collect all the musical notes that have escaped. The plant is laid out as multi-level platforms connected by lifts and moving platforms. To complete each of the ten levels, you must gather every music note while avoiding hazards such as Stators, Patrollers, Flappers, laser beams, and arrows emerging from walls. Your jet energy depletes over time, especially when standing still, and must be replenished by collecting purple vinyl blobs. Enemies can be killed for bonus points by jumping on them. The game features five skill levels that alter enemy count and speed.
Amstrad CPC
The Amstrad CPC version was converted by Colin Hughes and published by English Software in 1984, later also by Amsoft in 1985 . Unlike the C64 version which retained the Atari original's animated title screen, the CPC version presents titles and options statically without the scrolling text animation . In-game graphics feature uniformly coloured notes and enemies across all floors, whereas the C64 alternates colours per floor . The CPC has grey borders and lacks the colour flashing "BONUS" text effect of the original . Jack's death animation omits the colour seizure effect, showing only the erasing sequence . Platforms move at a quicker pace than the Atari and C64 versions, requiring some recalibration from players . Loading from cassette takes approximately nine minutes and thirty-nine seconds, the longest of all versions . The game received review scores of 70% from Amstrad Action and 72% from Amtix .
