Harrier Attack! is a horizontally scrolling shooter inspired by the Falklands War. You pilot a Sea Harrier as the seascape scrolls from right to left. The mission has three phases: take off from your carrier, attack enemy ships and ground installations while avoiding missiles and fighters, then return to land on your carrier. Your Harrier carries bombs and a gun. Fuel is limited. Five difficulty levels increase enemy speed and numbers. Bombing your own carrier leaves you unable to land. The game sold over 250,000 copies across all platforms.
Amstrad CPC
Released in 1984 by Amsoft under license from Durell Software . The CPC version is historically significant as it is believed to be the first game ever received and played on Amstrad hardware—Roland Perry of Amstrad stated this in a Retro Gamer interview . The game was published on cassette as Amsoft code SOFT 112 . Core gameplay remains faithful to the original: take off, attack with guns and bombs, avoid guided missiles and enemy fighters, then land. The game features five skill levels; completing level five loops back to the beginning at the same difficulty . Retrospective reviews note the game is "beloved by many a CPC user" and, despite its simplicity, holds a special place in Amstrad gaming history as one of the earliest titles for the system. A basic but historically important shooter.
