Cosmic Spacehead

Amiga

Cosmic Spacehead is a unique blend of adventure and platform gaming from Codemasters, released in 1993. You are Linus Spacehead, an alien from Linoleum who returns from Earth expecting glory, only to be mocked. To prove his journey, he must go back with a camera. The humorous quest takes him across his planet to find a new ship, facing quirky predicaments like stopping a robot revolt or using a fake ID for a bumper car contest. Gameplay splits into two styles: a point-and-click adventure reminiscent of Maniac Mansion, collecting items and solving puzzles, and side-scrolling platforming sequences to travel between areas, dodging enemies and pits. Its vibrant cartoon art, inspired by 60s animation, shines brightest in 16-bit versions.

Amiga

Released in Europe in November 1993 on two disks, this port is based on the enhanced 16-bit remake, not the 8-bit original. Visuals are richer and more colourful, with detailed backgrounds that exploit the Amiga's palette. Gameplay is refined: Linus jumps higher and changes direction mid-air, making platform sections less punishing. A notable exclusive is "Pie Slap," an unlockable two-player mini-game. The conversion was coded by Andrew Fussey, Derek Leigh-Gilchrist, and Peter Williamson, with graphics by Brian Hartley, Damon Redmond, and Toby Eglesfield, and music by Ashley Hogg and Matthew Simmonds. It earned coverage in Amiga Format, CU Amiga, and Amiga Power. While the core adventure remains faithful, the Amiga version stands out for superior visuals, tighter controls, and the bonus Pie Slap mode, offering one of the most polished Cosmic Spacehead experiences on any system.
