Adidas Championship Football

Adidas Championship Football is a top-down arcade-style football game released in 1990 by Ocean Software and developed by Smart Egg Software. Also known as Adidas Soccer, it features 24 fictional national teams competing in a World Cup-style tournament. Players choose from four formations (4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4-2-4, 5-3-2) and adjust match duration. The gameplay uses a unique control system where the ball isn't glued to the player's feet, requiring precise positioning. Shooting involves holding the button to charge a power bar. Full rules include fouls, corners, throw-ins, penalties, and extra time, with two-player support within championship mode. The package originally included a cassette of New Order's "World in Motion".

Amiga

The Amiga version is one of the rarest releases for the system. Published by Ocean, it was never released in the UK for undisclosed reasons. Its European release was extremely limited, known only in France, making originals highly sought after and mythical. The game remained unpreserved for decades until a copy was discovered on eBay in 2023 for £4.99 and preserved by Scoopex. Upon recovery, it received mixed to negative reviews, with many considering it a poor football simulation lacking depth. Amiga Joker gave it a 62% rating, reflecting its underwhelming reception. The preservation also revealed poorly implemented copy protection that required patching for compatibility with Amiga models beyond the 68000 CPU.
