The Spy Who Loved Me is a vertically scrolling vehicular combat game loosely based on the 1977 James Bond film . You play as 007, driving a gadget-laden Lotus Esprit across various missions against the villain Karl Stromberg . Gameplay alternates between top-down driving/shooting segments reminiscent of the classic arcade title Spy Hunter and, exclusively in 16-bit versions, first-person shooting sections . On land and underwater you control Bond's car; later levels feature a speedboat and a Wet Bike . Q tokens collected during missions can be spent at the Q-truck for weapon upgrades . The game is notorious for frustrating controls and high difficulty .
Amiga
Released in 1990 by Domark, developed by The Kremlin . As a 16-bit version, it includes exclusive levels absent from 8-bit ports: a first-person section defending Bond as he climbs a security camera, and the final first-person corridor confrontation with Jaws and Stromberg . A code-breaking puzzle level is also present . Graphics and music are praised as the best across all platforms, though the soundtrack is described as a grating rendition of the Bond theme . Controls are criticised for being imprecise and vehicle speeds poorly balanced—driving too fast makes evasion impossible . Magazine review scores include Amiga Power 50% and Zzap! 30% . Includes a cheat: type "MISS MONEYPENNY" for infinite lives and cash . A disappointing adaptation of a classic Bond film.
