Goldrunner is a vertical-scrolling shooter where Earth must be evacuated due to environmental damage. Unfortunately, spaceships must pass through Triton, a hostile alien world. The only solution is to destroy massive alien space stations—gigantic rings floating in space. Pilot your golden spaceship equipped with dual laser cannons, flying through ring worlds and destroying everything inside. Each ring has a specific energy level that must be depleted to progress. Touching enemies won't harm your craft—they take damage instead—but enemy mines and indestructible structures spell instant death. Manage your shields carefully; the ship can withstand up to five mine hits. Master the speed booster to navigate through intense alien waves with precision and strategy.
Amiga
Released in 1987 by Microdeal and ported from the Atari ST original, the Amiga version showcases one of the smoothest vertical scrolling engines on the platform. Rob Hubbard composed the legendary title theme—a remix of "The Human Race"—considered one of gaming's most iconic and remixed musical pieces. The conversion features fluid sprite animation and impressive technical achievement for early Amiga. The game employs a freely-scrolling perspective allowing bi-directional movement similar to Defender. Despite missing joystick support in favor of mouse controls, Goldrunner remains a captivating sci-fi shooter that exemplifies Microdeal's technical prowess on 16-bit systems.
