Space Quest - The Sarien Encounter

Amiga

Space Quest: The Sarien Encounter is a comedic graphic adventure that parodies classic science fiction tropes . You play as Roger Wilco, a hapless janitor aboard the scientific starship Arcada who awakens from a nap in a broom closet to find the vessel hijacked by the sinister alien Sariens . As the sole survivor, Roger must escape the doomed Arcada, crash-land on the desert planet Kerona, win enough money at a slot machine to buy a spaceship, and ultimately infiltrate the Sarien mothership Deltaur to retrieve the stolen Star Generator before it is used to destroy the galaxy . The game features a text parser interface with a pseudo-3D environment powered by Sierra's AGI engine, allowing characters to move in front of and behind background objects .

Amiga

Published by Sierra On-Line in December 1986 , this version runs at 160x200 resolution with 16 colors . It offers basic mouse support for movement in addition to the keyboard commands of other ports . Notably, the Amiga version features a three-voice soundtrack through its internal sound chip, a significant upgrade over the PC's internal speaker . However, the port has been criticized for not reworking graphics or sound to take full advantage of the Amiga's superior hardware . Aside from minor sound and graphic differences, this version is largely identical to the PC and Atari ST releases . The game uses a key disk copy protection system requiring the original floppy on startup .
